PUERTO GALERA, ORIENTAL MINDORO — August 25, 2026 — Preparations are gaining momentum for the upcoming Puerto Galera Underwater Shootout, with the municipality conducting the Underwater Shootout Spotters’ Training today at La Laguna Villas under the supervision of representatives from the Department of Tourism (DOT). The training forms part of the continuing preparations for the first Underwater Shootout to be held in Puerto Galera, scheduled for September 16–20, 2026. The event is expected to bring together underwater photographers, divers, tourism stakeholders, and other participants to showcase the exceptional marine biodiversity and world-class diving environment of Puerto Galera. The Spotters’ Training was designed to prepare local spotters who will assist during the competition and help ensure the smooth and organized conduct of underwater activities. Their role is particularly important in familiarizing participants with the area, supporting coordination during dives, and helping highlight Puerto Galera’s diverse underwater attractions. The activity also featured invited speakers Ram Yoro and Oliver Ang, who shared their knowledge, expertise, and insights relevant to the upcoming competition. Their presentations provided participants with valuable information and guidance as Puerto Galera prepares to welcome underwater photographers and diving enthusiasts for the September event. With the Underwater Shootout serving as a platform to showcase Puerto Galera beneath the surface, the training emphasizes the importance of local participation and preparedness in successfully hosting an international-level diving and underwater photography event. The initiative received the full support of Mayor Robinhood D. Ylagan and Vice Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan, whose leadership and commitment continue to strengthen the municipality’s tourism programs.
