Puerto Galera will bring the story of Mindoro to the world. This September, Puerto Galera will be showcased at the World Island Fair Yeosu Korea 2026, the world’s first international event dedicated to islands, which will take place in the scenic maritime city of Yeosu, South Korea, from September 5 to October 4, 2026. The event will bring together islands and island communities from around the world to celebrate their unique cultures, natural heritage and potential, while creating dialogue on the challenges they face in the era of climate change and exploring pathways toward a more sustainable future. Representing Puerto Galera and Mindoro, the Philippine presentation will be produced and majorly sponsored by D’ABOVILLE Foundation & Demo Farm, Inc. (DAF), in collaboration with Puerto Galera Most Beautiful Bay Inc. and a network of artists, cultural organizations, tourism partners, conservation practitioners and supporters. The participation of Puerto Galera in this international event will be made possible with the full support of Mayor Robinhood D. Ylagan and Vice Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan, who recognize the importance of bringing Puerto Galera’s natural, cultural and tourism heritage to the international stage. Their support will further strengthen the municipality’s efforts to promote Puerto Galera as a destination committed to sustainable tourism, environmental conservation and cultural appreciation. At the heart of the Philippine presentation will be Puerto Galera and the diverse natural and cultural heritage of Mindoro. PUERTO GALERA ON THE WORLD ISLAND STAGE The Philippine Pavilion will showcase the many faces of Mindoro through: Marine biodiversity and underwater heritage Contemporary art and local creativity Mangyan cultural heritage Tamaraw conservation Environmental education Eco-cultural tourism Films and stories about island life and conservation The exhibition will feature a large suspended manta ray by Studio Bahai Anino, photography by Beth Barklage (Asia Divers), Benjamin Bureau (DAF), and Andrew Tilker (Re), paintings by Puerto Galera-based artists Henri Lamy and Wilfredo L. Rufon, Mangyan heritage materials, environmental films, children's books by Lombosco Publications, and educational materials highlighting Mindoro’s ecosystems and conservation challenges. For Puerto Galera, this will be more than an international exhibition. It will be an opportunity to tell the world the story of an island community shaped by the sea, its forests, its people and its culture—and to highlight the responsibility that comes with protecting the natural and cultural heritage that makes Puerto Galera and Mindoro extraordinary.
