Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro — August 26, 2026 Representatives from the Department of Tourism (DOT) joined the Municipal Tourism Office of Puerto Galera and representatives of the Local Government Unit in an exploratory product diversification activity featuring the Medio Island Trails, as part of the municipality’s continuing efforts to identify, develop, and promote new tourism experiences beyond its established attractions. The trail exploration was led by Vice Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan, and provided firsthand insights into the area’s natural features, community setting, and potential as an emerging tourism destination. Joining the activity were DOT Director for Market Development Dr. Zeny C. Pallugna, Puerto Galera Sangguniang Bayan Councilor Daniel Enriquez, Municipal Tourism Operations Officer Mary Christine C. Ibon, and other representatives of the Local Government Unit of Puerto Galera. The exploratory hike provided an opportunity for the group to assess the potential of the Medio Island Trails as a nature-based and adventure tourism product. Through firsthand exploration, the participants examined the trail’s natural landscapes, accessibility, visitor experience, and other tourism assets that could potentially be enhanced and integrated into future tourism circuits and packages. The activity also highlighted the potential of trail-based tourism to complement Puerto Galera’s well-established reputation for its beaches, diving, and coastal attractions. Developing inland and community-based experiences can encourage visitors to explore other areas of the municipality while creating opportunities for local communities to participate in and benefit from tourism. With the guidance and technical perspective of the DOT, the exploratory activity aims to identify tourism assets that may be further developed, packaged, positioned, and promoted according to emerging visitor interests and market opportunities.
